Yesterday, we were cordially invited to the grand opening of the new Shuswap Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR Station 106) in Sicamous. It was an honor to attend this important event and to witness a milestone that truly benefits our entire community.

Part of the invitation email read:
“In 2012, Station 106 was stood up as a search and rescue station. Five years later, in 2017 we began research into the concept of a marine rescue base—a place where we could not only have a facility to protect our rescue vessels and related equipment but also provide space for a ready room and training classroom, and to provide privacy for patients and families on a return from a ‘mission call’. In 2022 we laid the first weld for our new facility. In early 2024, the boathouse was ready for launching. Finally launched in November of the same year, it is now at its home at the District of Sicamous dock. Interior finishing has continued since then, and now we are complete. It is time to celebrate!”

We are incredibly happy to see this vision come to life—a new facility that will serve not only the volunteers and teams that dedicate their time to saving lives on the water but also the entire Shuswap community. This facility enhances safety, training, and response capabilities and gives much-needed space for privacy and care for those affected by emergencies.

We are truly lucky to have services like RCMSAR in our community. Their hard work and dedication remind us how vital it is to have well-prepared and equipped teams ready to respond in times of need.
A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality and to those who give their time and expertise every day to keep our waters safe. Your service is deeply appreciated, and this new facility is a testament to your dedication and impact.
