So, this week I took my parents to Copper Island by kayak. we all took a single kayak and left from our Marina. The 3 of us and Ruby, our rescue dog.
at our marina we do rent kayaks and we provide safety equipment, dry bags for your clothes and for your phone and lifejackets of all sizes, including all pets’ sizes.
My parents are 77 and 75 and they did great! They were able to take lots of photos with the drybags and felt secured at all times. Ruby was unsure at first but then took the best spot on the kayak so she could have the perfect view.
We picked the morning so it’s more calm and less busy on the water. It took us a little under an hour to get to the island, and there were already maybe 4 to 6 kayaks and paddle boarders around. Once we got to the island there were 2 big stand-up paddle boards at the bottom. We got there around noon? Hard to say as we were enjoying our time.
Once we found the 2 signs for the hike, we parked the kayaks, which was surprisingly easy. my parents brought sneakers in a bag so they can change from their sandals. I was wearing closed shoes already.
The hike was easy and only took us around 15 minutes. We found a family having lunch from a cooler seated at the first lookout, and a couple at the second lookout. We walked all the way up and took some very cool pictures. My parents were amazed by the view and were very happy they took the challenge all the way to the top and by kayak!
The way back was easy! They changed shoes and off we went back to the marina. we arrived with the perfect amount of time to go grab a bite to eat. I would say that the whole trip took us just under 3 hours, but like I said we took it easy and many, many… maybe too many photos were taken.
So, if you want to do the hike don’t feel scared or worried! my parents did quite well and for ruby…she fell in the water twice. but luckily, she was wearing a life jacket, making it super easy to get her back in the kayak. Who knows, maybe she felt hot and jumped in the lake! At least I want to think that is what happened.![]()
